The Lagos State Attorney-General, Mr Lawal Pedro (SAN), has dismissed reports suggesting that actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, was cleared by the Court of Appeal. He said the claim, widely circulated on social media, was false and capable of misleading the public.
Mr. Pedro explained that the actor’s release resulted solely from the completion of his jail term, not from any exoneration. He stressed that the appellate court had only set aside charges relating to alleged offences committed between 2013 and 2014, while fully upholding the 2021 conviction for sexual assault and indecent treatment of a child.

He warned that those promoting the false narrative risk prosecution under Section 39 of the Lagos Criminal Law, reiterating the state’s commitment to protecting children and safeguarding the integrity of judicial decisions.
