Nigeria is set to begin domestic manufacturing of aircraft components, in a bid to transform the aviation sector and reduce reliance on overseas parts.
This was announced by President Tinubu during the inaugural Nigerian International Airshow, where he was represented by the Secretary-General of the Federation, George Akume.
The plan is part of a broader vision to position Nigeria as the aviation hub of West and Central Africa. Officials say component manufacturing, including maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facilities, should curb billions of dollars currently spent abroad on aircraft maintenance and spare parts.

According to Tinubu, the aviation industry is on course for rapid growth: passenger traffic and revenue are forecast to rise sharply by 2029, further underpinning the need for a local aerospace manufacturing ecosystem.
