Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo has defended the planned reconstruction of Terminal One at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport, urging critics to familiarise themselves with global airport construction costs.
Speaking via his official X account, Mr. Keyamo said the Federal Executive Council approved the project after scrutiny by the Bureau of Public Procurement. He noted that the terminal, commissioned in 1979, is now structurally exhausted and overcrowded.

The new plan involves a full rebuild, not another patch-up. Keyamo also revealed an expansion of Terminal Two, including a larger apron, separate access roads, and a connecting bridge to address longstanding design flaws.
He stressed the project will be funded through the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Fund, with no foreign loans involved.
To promote transparency, facility tours will be arranged for journalists, lawmakers, and civil society groups.
Other terminals nationwide, he added, remain underused.
