Aviation sector considers ‘ambassador’ roles for repentant offenders

Nigeria’s aviation authorities are weighing public awareness roles for two high-profile travellers involved in recent airport controversies.

Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo said Airline Operators of Nigeria may appoint Miss Comfort Emmanson — the Ibom Air passenger accused of unruly behaviour and later freed after charges were dropped — as “ambassador for good passenger conduct”.

The Federal Government has also tapped Fuji star KWAM 1 to promote airport security protocols, following his attempt to block a moving aircraft at Abuja airport.

Keyamo stressed both roles are unpaid, akin to community service, and follow global practice of using repentant offenders to educate the public.

Miss Emmanson’s release came after consultations with industry stakeholders, though her lifetime no-fly ban remains. The minister also condemned the leak of an indecent video from the incident, ordering action against those responsible.
