Defender Chidozie Awaziem has been recalled to the Super Eagles after more than a year away from international duty, stepping back into the squad at a decisive point in Nigeria’s World Cup qualifying campaign. His inclusion follows Semi Ajayi’s withdrawal due to injury, with the 28-year-old recently completing a summer move to French Ligue 1 side Nantes.

Nigeria trail Group C leaders South Africa by six points and face back-to-back fixtures against Rwanda and South Africa this month. Awaziem acknowledged the scale of the task, stressing the need for focus, resilience, and collective belief as the team chases maximum points.
A member of the 2018 World Cup squad, though unused in Russia, Awaziem said Nigerians should expect full commitment from the players. He maintained the team’s determination to fight until the end, underlining that nothing short of victory will suffice.
