Suspected bandits have abducted four rice farmers in Bokungi village in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State. The attack took place on Wednesday evening while the victims were working on their rice farms during the peak of the harvest season.
The incident occurred less than a day after gunmen attacked a church in Eruku in Ekiti Local Government Area, killing two people and abducting several others. Community sources said the attackers arrived suddenly and surrounded the farmers as they gathered their harvested crops.
Residents reported that the gunmen operated without resistance and forced the farmers into a nearby bush before taking them to an unknown location. They added that growing insecurity in Edu LGA has left many farming settlements deserted as farmers fear attacks during harvest.
