Suspected bandits have demanded a ransom of one billion naira for the release of eight members of the Evangelical Church of West Africa abducted in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State. The victims were taken during a church service on Sunday after gunmen opened fire to disperse worshippers.
The pastor in charge, Toba Omole, whose wife is among those kidnapped, said the abductors made contact on Tuesday morning and allowed the victims to speak with the community before issuing the demand. He described the ransom as beyond the capacity of the church and appealed to the government and the public for assistance.
Omole said security operatives visited the community after the attack, with soldiers deployed overnight to provide protection. He expressed appreciation for the intervention but said more needed to be done as the victims remain in captivity.
