Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey has praised Nigerian football fans, describing them as the most passionate supporters he has encountered in his career. The 25-year-old, who was born in Italy to Nigerian parents and raised in England, chose to represent Nigeria in 2022 and has since become a key figure in the national team.
Bassey, who has played for Rangers and Ajax before joining Fulham, said the energy of Nigerian supporters stands out when compared to fans in Europe. He noted their intensity and unwavering commitment as unmatched.

At club level, Bassey remains a trusted player under Fulham manager Marco Silva, even earning the club’s Player of the Season award last year. He will once again feature for the Super Eagles this month when Nigeria face Benin in a crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
