Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has warned that a planned rally by a group loyal to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike could spark a crisis in the state. Speaking at a security council meeting, Diri alleged that a suspended PDP member was working with an ex-governor to create a faction in the party.
He urged security agencies and community leaders to prevent any unrest, stating that Bayelsa would not allow the political crisis in Rivers to spill over.

Meanwhile, Mr Wike’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, dismissed Governor Diri’s concerns as baseless, insisting that Nigerians have the right to hold rallies. He accused the governor of using Wike as a distraction from his governance failures.
Mr Olayinka further claimed that Governor Diri once sought Mr Wike’s support in secret before his re-election, calling the governor’s recent actions hypocritical.
