Bayelsa United stunned Rivers United 2-1 in a pulsating South-South derby at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt on Monday. The match, initially scheduled for Sunday, was postponed due to heavy rainfall.
Shuaibu Garba opened scoring for Bayelsa United midway through the first half, before Chinedu Emmanuel doubled the visitors’ advantage with 19 minutes left on the clock.

Rivers United pulled one back through Stephan Manyo in stoppage time, but it was too late to rescue a point. The result marked Rivers United’s first defeat of the 2025 Nigeria Premier Football League campaign, while Bayelsa United celebrated a famous away win.
