Ivorian football legend Didier Drogba has voiced his support for Nigeria’s Super Eagles ahead of their crucial 2026 World Cup play-off against Gabon in November. The former Chelsea striker urged Nigerians to remain patient with the national team, saying public expectations often shift too quickly after near-successes, citing the Super Eagles’ 2023 AFCON campaign as an example.
Drogba praised Nigeria’s progress, noting that reaching the AFCON final was a significant achievement that deserved recognition, not criticism. He reminded fans that reputation alone doesn’t win matches and encouraged the players to focus on performance and unity.

Nigeria secured their play-off spot after victories over Lesotho and Benin Republic, and will now face Gabon before a possible final tie against either DR Congo or Cameroon for a place at the 2026 World Cup.
