Benin national coach Gernot Rohr says Turkish club Göztepe has been reported to FIFA for preventing midfielder Junior Olaïtan from joining the national squad during the international break. The player, recovering from an undisclosed injury, had missed Göztepe’s last two matches in the Turkish Super Lig.
Under FIFA rules, clubs must release players for international duty, though they may withhold them if medical reports confirm they are unfit. Benin’s medical team had planned further tests in Kigali, but the club reportedly blocked Olaïtan’s travel.

Rohr said national team call-ups must be respected, even for injured players who are expected to report for assessment. The dispute comes as Benin lead Group C of the World Cup qualifiers, ahead of South Africa, and prepare to face Nigeria in a decisive tie in Uyo on October 14.
