The Benue State House of Assembly has accused the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, of meddling in the state’s political affairs to favour certain politicians based in Abuja.
Speaking at the Government House on Thursday, Majority Leader Saater Tiseer defended the Assembly’s actions, stating that the constitution grants it the authority to address concerns raised by Governor Hyacinth Alia.

Tiseer maintained that the decision to remove Chief Judge Maurice Ikpambese had the backing of a two-thirds majority of lawmakers. He also criticised the National Judicial Council, NJC, for questioning the process, arguing that the Assembly was within its constitutional rights under Section 292 and had no obligation to the NJC in such matters.
The NJC, however, insisted on Wednesday that Justice Ikpambese remains the Chief Judge of Benue State, dismissing the Assembly’s resolution as lacking legal standing.
