The Benue State House of Assembly has removed Justice Maurice Ikpembese as Chief Judge, endorsing Justice Theresa Igoche, the next most senior judge, for appointment as Acting Chief Judge.
During Tuesday’s plenary, Majority Leader Saater Tiseer read a letter from Governor Hyacinth Alia, accusing Justice Ikpembese of abuse of office, corruption, tampering with local government election laws, inciting a judicial strike, bribery, and political fraternisation.

Despite divisions among lawmakers, the Speaker put the matter to a vote. A total of 23 legislators backed the decision to remove Justice Ikpembese from office.
