The National Judicial Council, NJC, has affirmed that Maurice Ikpambese, the Chief Judge of Benue State, will remain in office pending an investigation into allegations levelled against him.
The Benue State House of Assembly had, on Tuesday, recommended his suspension over claims of gross misconduct and abuse of office. This followed a letter from Governor Hyacinth Alia, read by Majority Leader Saater Tiseer during plenary.

In a statement on Wednesday, NJC Deputy Director of Information, Kemi Ogedengbe, confirmed receipt of the petition. She emphasised that judicial appointments and disciplinary measures must adhere to constitutional provisions.
Justice Ikpambese faces five allegations, including issuing directives to overturn state electoral laws, financial mismanagement, and engaging with politicians to influence judicial outcomes. He is also accused of inciting industrial action against the state government.
