Beware of Voya Investment, Not Licensed to Operate, SEC Warns Nigerians

The Securities and Exchange Commission has warned Nigerians against transacting with Voya Investment Management, an online investment platform operating through the website investments.voya.com. The regulator said the firm is not registered or licensed to operate in Nigeria’s capital market.

In a notice issued on Wednesday, the SEC said claims by Voya Investment Management that it is licensed, supervised or approved by the commission are false and misleading. It added that the company has been parading a certificate of identity verification which was neither issued nor endorsed by the SEC.

The commission said complaints received about Voya indicate it is running an illegal investment scheme capable of defrauding unsuspecting members of the public, particularly through misleading claims of regulatory approval. It stressed that anyone dealing with the firm or its representatives does so at their own risk.

The SEC advised investors to always verify the registration status of companies through its official portal before committing funds, warning that engagement with unregistered entities exposes investors to significant financial risks, including fraud and loss of investment.
