The Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Kukah, has expressed concern over the poor state of education in Northern Nigeria, attributing it to a failure by public officeholders.
Speaking at a town hall meeting on women’s inclusion in peace and security organised by Global Rights in collaboration with the Kukah Foundation, he recalled how Sir Ahmadu Bello, the late Premier of the Northern Region, championed mass education to combat ignorance.
Bishop Kukah stressed the importance of education, noting that ignorance fuels poverty. He also called for greater inclusion of women in society, emphasising their potential to contribute to development, peace, and security through roles like intelligence gathering.
