The Joint Health Sector Union has asked Nigerians to hold the Federal Government responsible for the disruption of healthcare services caused by the ongoing strike by its members.
Speaking in a monitored interview, the National Secretary of JOHESU, Martin Egbanubi, said the union’s one point demand remains the implementation of the adjusted Consolidated Health Salary Structure for health workers. He said the union understands the hardship faced by patients but insisted the government must act to prevent future strikes.
Egbanubi said JOHESU had held several engagements with the government, recalling President Bola Tinubu’s assurance in June 2023 that relevant ministries, departments and agencies would address the issue. He said the union had written to the president to remind him of the commitment, adding that some members had also suffered casualties during the strike.

Recall that JOHESU began an indefinite strike in November 2025 over what it described as the government’s failure to honour agreements. The action has since been backed by the Trade Union Congress, which rejected the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare’s no work no pay directive and warned that it undermines ongoing negotiations.
