Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State says he will subsidise the cost of petrol for farmers in Damasak, a major town in Mobbar Local Government Area of the state, to enhance food security.
The governor, who promised to make his state self-sufficient in food production, also promised to distribute solar water-pumping generating sets, seedlings, fertiliser, and other agricultural inputs to the farmers.
Damasak, one of the agricultural hubs in Borno, is gradually recovering from a decade-long crisis orchestrated by Boko Haram insurgents.

According to him, the primary source of energy in the town has been generators powered by fossil fuels. He also says the government will identify two filling stations for the supply of petrol and subsidies, making it possible for the farmers to purchase petrol.
The Borno State governor says the lower priced petrol will make it more affordable for the farmers to irrigate their farmlands.
