Doctors and health professionals in the United Kingdom have staged protests in London, calling for the release of more than 100 Palestinian medical workers reportedly held without charge or trial in Israeli prisons. Among them is Dr Hussam Abu Safia, a senior hospital director in Gaza, who was detained by Israeli forces in December 2024 and has remained in custody since.

Organisers say his arrest highlights what they describe as a systematic assault on Gaza’s health system. Dr Rebecca Inglis of Healthcare Workers Watch said targeting medics and hospitals was, in their own words, an attack on what sustains life in the enclave. Protesters held placards demanding accountability and vowed to keep pressing for the protection of medical neutrality in conflict zones.
