Nigerian sprinter Godson Brume has pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm in the United States while on a non-immigrant visa. The US Department of Justice said he admitted the offence before Judge Shelly Dick at a federal court hearing on December 3.

Brume, who is in the US on an F-1 student visa, confessed to possessing and discharging a Glock 43X pistol during an altercation with an ex-girlfriend at his apartment in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on February 7, 2025. Court documents said the incident occurred while his infant child was present.

The Justice Department said he faces a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison, a fine of 250,000 dollars and up to three years of supervised release. He may also be deported from the United States after serving any sentence imposed by the court.
