Burna Boy and Asake have emerged as the most-nominated African artists at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, securing two nominations each.
Burna Boy’s nods include ‘Video for Good’ for ‘Higher’ and ‘Best Afrobeats’ for ‘Tatata’, his collaboration with American rapper Travis Scott. Asake also features twice in the ‘Best Afrobeats’ category for ‘Active’, another Travis Scott collaboration, and ‘Get It Right’ with Tems.

Other African artists shortlisted in the ‘Best Afrobeats’ category include Rema, Moliy, Tems, Wizkid, and Tyla. Ayra Starr stands out with a nomination in the ‘MTV PUSH Performance of the Year’ category for ‘Last Heartbreak Song’.
American pop icon Lady Gaga tops the overall list with 12 nominations.
The awards ceremony will take place on 7 September at the USB Arena in New York.
