CAF Appoints Nigeria’s Samson Adamu as Acting Secretary General

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed Nigeria’s Samson Adamu as Acting Secretary General, marking a major milestone for the country in continental football administration. His appointment was confirmed on Sunday, making him the first Nigerian to hold the position since the organisation was founded more than 70 years ago.

Adamu takes over from Veron Mosengo Omba, who stepped down from the role on the same day. His nomination was proposed by the CAF Executive Committee and approved during a Congress meeting held in Cairo, Egypt.

Before his appointment, Mr Adamu served as CAF Director of Tournaments and Events, where he played a key role in organising major competitions, including the Africa Cup of Nations and club tournaments across the continent.
