The Confederation of African Football has expanded the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations from 12 to 16 teams, starting with the 2026 edition in Morocco. CAF said the adjustment follows a review of women’s football development across the continent.
According to the statement, Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Mali and Egypt have been added to the 12 nations that have already qualified, based on their FIFA rankings. The expansion brings more representation and competition to the continental tournament.
Host nation Morocco will be joined by Nigeria, South Africa, Zambia, Tanzania, Malawi, Algeria, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Kenya, Senegal and Cape Verde. The championship will take place from March 17 to April 3, 2026.
