The United States government has conducted what it refers to as ‘very urgent discussions’ with the Israeli government regarding the worsening humanitarian crisis in northern Gaza. This information was relayed by US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller during a briefing on Wednesday.
Mr Miller emphasised the US government’s firm expectation that Israel adhere to its obligations under international humanitarian law. He stressed the necessity for the Israeli government to allow the delivery of essential humanitarian aid, including food and water, to all regions of Gaza.
The situation in Gaza has reached a critical point, with the Ministry of Health reporting that Israeli military operations have resulted in the deaths of at least 41,965 Palestinians and left approximately 97,590 injured. These military strikes have significantly impacted civilian infrastructure, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the enclave.

For years, Israel has contended that Hamas militants utilise civilian sites, such as mosques and hospitals, as shields from which they conduct operations. Hamas, on the other hand, has consistently denied these allegations.
