Nigeria began their 2024 African Nations Championship, CHAN, campaign with a 1-0 defeat to Senegal at the Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar on Tuesday.
Despite dominating possession with 58.1 percent, the Super Eagles B failed to capitalise, with the decisive moment coming in the 75th minute. A lapse in defence allowed Senegal’s Koité to break free and set up Gomis, who calmly finished past an exposed Mustapha Lawal.

Nigeria’s 4-4-2 setup initially held firm in a scrappy, foul-heavy contest dominated by midfield battles. Clear chances were rare, though Nigeria showed brief promise midway through the second half.
Late substitutions, including the injured Jabbar Malik, could not alter the outcome, as Senegal closed out the match with composure.
The result puts Nigeria under pressure ahead of their next fixture against Sudan, with head coach Eric Chelle now facing a must-win scenario to stay in contention.
