Chiamaka Nnadozie Makes Final Shortlist for 2024 CAF Women’s Player of the Year

Chiamaka Nnadozie Makes Final Shortlist for 2024 CAF Women’s Player of the Year

Nigerian goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has been named among the final three nominees for the 2024 CAF Women’s Player of the Year award, the Confederation of African Football announced on Thursday.

Nnadozie, a standout performer for both club and country, is the sole goalkeeper on the shortlist. She is joined by Zambia’s Barbara Banda and Morocco’s Sanna Mssoudy, both formidable competitors for the prestigious honour.

This year’s award will see a new winner, marking the end of striker Asisat Oshoala’s dominance since 2018. Oshoala, a six-time recipient of the title, has held the crown for the past three editions.

Notably, no goalkeeper has ever clinched the CAF Women’s Player of the Year award since its inception in 2001, adding further intrigue to Nnadozie’s historic nomination.  Chiamaka Nnadozie was named goalkeeper of the season in the 2023/24 French women’s league as she aided Paris FC to finish third on the log.
