A cholera outbreak in Niger State has claimed 13 lives and left over 230 people hospitalised across six local government areas. The outbreak, which began in Shiroro, has now spread to Minna, Bosso, Magama, Bida, and Munya.
Commissioner for Primary Healthcare, Dr Ibrahim Dangana, confirmed the outbreak and said the state government had activated a multi-sectoral emergency response. Treatment and isolation centres have been set up in each affected area.

He added that the state is intensifying public awareness through religious groups and traditional institutions to curb the spread. A major isolation centre has also been opened in Minna to support containment efforts.
Officials say Shiroro, Bosso, and Minna are the hardest-hit areas. The government is working with donor agencies while closely monitoring the situation to prevent further deaths.
