The National Film and Video Censors Board says it is engaging the producers of the film ‘A Very Dirty Christmas’, produced by actress Ini Edo, over concerns about the movie’s title.
The board’s move follows criticism from the Christian Association of Nigeria, which described the title as offensive and disrespectful to the Christian faith.
In a statement on Thursday, the NFVCB director, Shaibu Husseini, said the film had passed through the standard censorship and classification process, adding that approval of the title was not intended to trivialise Christianity or the Christmas celebration.

He said the board has formally asked the filmmakers to consider changing the title to avoid religious tensions, noting that the NFVCB has the legal power to withdraw a film from exhibition in the public interest if necessary.
