The legal battle over the removal of Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly continued on Friday at the Ikeja High Court, with Justice Yetunde Pinheiro adjourning the matter till Monday, March 10. The court will hear all new and pending applications on the adjourned date, with parties directed to file and serve necessary documents.
Deputy Speaker Mojisola Meranda and 36 other lawmakers have asked the court to dismiss the case, arguing that Obasa’s removal is now an academic exercise. Meanwhile, new counsels representing some lawmakers, Olusola Idowu (SAN) and Clement Onwuenwunor, have filed fresh applications after joining the suit.

Obasa’s counsel, Afolabi Fashanu (SAN), told journalists that beyond procedural irregularities, his client is also challenging allegations of fraud, high-handedness, abuse of office, and gross misconduct, claiming he was denied a fair hearing.
On the other hand, Romeo Michael, representing 34 lawmakers, said they have filed a counterclaim urging the court to uphold Obasa’s removal, arguing that it was conducted lawfully under Section 92 of the 1999 Constitution.
