The National Industrial Court of Nigeria has adjourned the suit filed by the Federal Government against the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) over the strike embarked upon by the union from February till Friday the 16th of September.

At the court proceedings today, the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) sought to join the suit as an interested party.

SERAP’s lawyer, Ebun-Olu Adegnoruwa (SAN) said his client had filed a similar suit to compel the Federal Government to honor its 2009 agreement with the striking lecturers.

The Federal Government had asked the Industrial Court to speed up the hearing in the suit filed against Asuu In a letter dated September 8 so as to resolve the dispute between both sides.

ASUU and the federal government have met several times in a bid to resolve the dispute over the 2009 FG-ASUU agreement, but have been unable to make headway.
