Court Convicts 18 Boko Haram Members, Four Receive Life Sentences

Court Jails Four Boko Haram Suppliers as Federal Government Begins Trial of 500 Terrorism Suspects

A Federal High Court in Abuja has convicted 18 members of Boko Haram, with four of them sentenced to life imprisonment. The trial judge, Justice James Omotosho, delivered the judgment on Tuesday after the defendants pleaded guilty to charges filed by the Federal Government.

The prosecution was led by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, alongside the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Mr Rotimi Oyedepo. Evidence presented by a witness from the Department of State Services supported the case, including confessional statements and investigation reports admitted by the court.

Those sentenced to life imprisonment are Ali Abiso, Bakura Abah Kabiru, Ado, also known as Luka Garba, and Babagoni Masawai. Justice James Omotosho also sentenced 14 other defendants to prison terms ranging from 20 to 25 years after they pleaded guilty to multiple terrorism-related offences.

The Attorney General, Lateef Fagbemi, said about 500 suspects are currently being prosecuted in the ninth phase of ongoing terrorism trials in Abuja. The cases are being handled by judges of the Federal High Court as part of efforts to address terrorism-related offences in the country.
