The Federal High Court has dismissed claims that the judge newly assigned to Nnamdi Kanu’s trial has stepped down.
Chief Judge John Tsoho reassigned the case after Mr Kanu repeatedly called for Justice Binta Nyako’s recusal. Justice Nyako had indefinitely adjourned proceedings on 10 February, following the defendant’s insistence that she could no longer preside over the matter.
Mr Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, confirmed receiving official letters from Chief Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun and Justice Tsoho, notifying him of the reassignment.

However, reports later emerged alleging that Justice Tsoho had taken over the case personally before withdrawing. The claims also questioned the legality of Mr Kanu’s detention.
Court Registrar Sulaiman Hassan dismissed the reports as “unfounded and mischievous,” clarifying that Justice Tsoho’s role was limited to reassigning the case to another judge.
