Court Grants Bauchi Finance Commissioner ₦500m Bail

A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted the Bauchi State Commissioner of Finance, Yakubu Adamu, bail in the sum of 500 million naira over allegations of money laundering. Justice Emeka Nwite ruled that the bail must be secured with two sureties in like sum, who must be land owners within Maitama, Asokoro or Gwarimpa districts of the Federal Capital Territory.

The court ordered that the property documents of the sureties be verified by the court registry, and that both the defendant and the sureties deposit their international passports with the registrar. Justice Nwite also ruled that they must not travel out of Nigeria without the permission of the court and must submit two passport photographs each.

Pending the perfection of the bail conditions, the judge ordered that Adamu be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre. The case was adjourned until January 20, 2026, for the commencement of trial.
