A High Court in Sagamu, Ogun State, has issued an interim order stopping the state government from demolishing properties belonging to former governor and current Ogun East senator, Gbenga Daniel. Justice O. S. Oloyede granted the order ex parte after Daniel and his wife, Olufunke, filed an affidavit of urgency.
The court barred the government, its agents, and associates from carrying out any demolition, enforcing a quit notice issued on 8 August, or interfering with the couple’s possession of the properties. The order also restrains any form of trespass or disturbance until the substantive motion is heard. The case was adjourned to 19 August for the hearing of an interlocutory injunction application.

The dispute centres on Mr. Daniel’s Asoludero residence and Conference Hotel in Sagamu Local Government Area, which the government says contravene the Ogun State Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law No. 61 of 2022. Mr. Daniel insists the buildings were constructed legally before the law came into effect, describing the planned demolition as politically motivated and contrary to due process.
Governor Dapo Abiodun’s spokesman, Kayode Akinmade, has maintained that Daniel is not above the law. He said the senator, like others affected in the area, was served with the required notices but failed to present his planning permit and land title for verification, instead engaging in what he described as “cheap blackmail.”
