A Federal High Court in Abuja has, for the second time, stopped the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, from holding its national convention scheduled for November 15–16 in Ibadan, Oyo State. The court also barred the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, from monitoring or recognising any outcome from the event.
Justice Peter Lifu issued the order in response to a suit filed by former Jigawa State governor Sule Lamido, who alleged he was unlawfully denied the opportunity to obtain the party’s chairmanship nomination form.

In his ruling, Justice Lifu said the PDP failed to meet legal requirements for conducting the convention and warned that disregard for due process endangers democracy. He emphasised that the court must uphold justice “without fear or favour” to prevent anarchy.
