The National Industrial Court in Abuja has stopped the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN, from embarking on a nationwide strike against the Dangote Petroleum Refinery. Justice Emmanuel Sublim issued the interim order after an ex-parte application by the refinery’s counsel, warning that such action could cause severe economic disruption.

The ruling also restrained the NNPC, the Midstream and Downstream Authority, and the Upstream Commission from enforcing any directive to cut crude or gas supply to the refinery. The court stressed the need to maintain the status quo until the case is determined.
The dispute followed claims by PENGASSAN that the refinery sacked more than 800 workers. Management later confirmed some redundancies but insisted only a few employees were affected. The matter has been adjourned to 13 October for further hearing.
