A Federal High Court sitting in Ado Ekiti has nullified the governorship primary conducted by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ekiti State ahead of the 2026 election. The court ordered the party to conduct a fresh primary in line with the Electoral Act and its internal guidelines.
Delivering judgment on Tuesday, Justice Babs Kuewumi ruled in favour of a suit filed by a governorship aspirant, Funso Ayeni, against the PDP and the Independent National Election Commission, INEC. The judge held that the party failed to comply with the law by not presenting the original and authentic list of statutory and ad hoc delegates used for the primary.

The court consequently set aside the exercise that produced Wole Oluyede as the PDP candidate and directed the party to organise a new primary under INEC’s supervision. Justice Kuewumi also ordered that all eligible aspirants must be allowed to participate in the fresh exercise to ensure transparency and internal democracy.
