The Court of Appeal in Abuja has reaffirmed that Julius Abure remains the National Chairman of the Labour Party. A three-member panel of the appellate court, led by Justice Hamma Barka, upheld its November 13, 2024 ruling, declaring that the Labour Party leadership dispute had not been overturned by any subsequent court decision.
Justice Barka’s ruling followed appeals filed by Senator Esther Nenadi Usman, the Labour Party caretaker committee, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The court confirmed that it would not entertain the leadership issue, stating that such matters were not justiciable under current laws.

The court also criticised the Federal High Court ruling from October 8, 2024, which had attempted to challenge Abure’s position. Justice Barka explained that the Federal High Court judgment was made without jurisdiction and, as such, was deemed null and void.
In delivering its verdict, the appellate court emphasised that any actions taken outside the court’s jurisdiction are invalid. The court’s decision reiterates Abure’s continued role as National Chairman of the Labour Party, dismissing the appeals for lack of merit.
