Court Orders Final Forfeiture of $4.7m, ₦830m Linked to Emefiele

The Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the permanent forfeiture of $4.7 million, ₦830 million, and multiple properties linked to former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele.  

In a ruling on Friday, Justice Yellim Bogoro also ordered the final forfeiture of $900,000 in investments traced to Anita Joy Omoile, a close relative of Emefiele. Additionally, the court forfeited $4.4 million in investments linked to Deep Blue Energy Services Ltd, ₦283 million in a Zenith Bank account belonging to Liman Investment Ltd, as well as €20,000 and £1,999.50 linked to Exactquote Bureau De Change.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) successfully argued that the funds and properties were proceeds of unlawful activities. The court upheld the agency’s case and ruled that all forfeited assets be transferred to the Federal Government.
