Court Orders Interim Forfeiture of 57 Properties Linked to ex-AGF Malami

A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the interim forfeiture of 57 properties linked to a former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, and two of his sons, Abdulaziz and Abiru Rahman. The properties, valued at more than two hundred and thirteen billion naira, are located in Abuja, Kebbi, Kano and Kaduna states.

Justice Emeka Nwite granted the order after an ex parte application filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission through its counsel, Ekele Iheanacho, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria.

The judge directed that the properties be temporarily forfeited to the Federal Government and ordered that a notice be published in a national daily, inviting interested parties to show cause within fourteen days why a final forfeiture order should not be made.

The court adjourned the matter to January 27, 2026, for a report of compliance. Malami, his wife, Bashir Asabe, and his son, Abdulaziz, are facing alleged 8.7 billion naira money laundering charges before the same court.
