A Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced a member of Boko Haram, Auwalu Samaila, to death by hanging for terrorism-related offences carried out in Adamawa State and Borno State. The judgment was delivered by Justice James Omotosho after the defendant pleaded guilty to a six-count charge filed by the Federal Government.
Justice Omotosho ruled that the convict showed no remorse despite the severity of the crimes. He found Samaila guilty of participating in multiple attacks between 2012 and 2017 across communities in Adamawa and Borno states, including Damboa, Gombi and Hong, where civilians and security personnel lost their lives.
The prosecution, led by Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Jemila Ade, presented a confessional statement in which the convict admitted to transporting female suicide bombers and taking part in attacks in several locations, including Mubi, Chibok, Damaturu, Michika and Gulak.

In his sentence, Justice Omotosho ordered death by hanging on three counts, alongside prison terms of 25 and 30 years on other charges. In related rulings, the court sentenced Shura Abdullahi and Abdulrahman Ari to life imprisonment, while Aisami Kadi, Umaru Usman and Abdulrahman Hassan received prison terms ranging from 20 to 21 years.
