A South Korean court has sentenced a woman, identified as Yang, to four years in prison for blackmailing football star Son Heung-min. Prosecutors said she extorted 300 million won from the Los Angeles FC player last year by claiming she was pregnant with his child and threatening to make the information public.
Yang and an accomplice, Yong, allegedly spent the money on luxury items before attempting to extort an additional 70 million won. Son reported the threats to police, which led to their arrest and indictment. Yong received a two-year sentence for attempted blackmail.
The court heard that Yang contacted media and advertising agencies in an effort to damage Son’s reputation. Judge Im Jeong-bin said her actions went beyond simple threats and caused significant psychological distress for the South Korean captain.

Local reports said Son appeared at a closed trial session last month to give evidence. It remains unclear whether Yang was ever pregnant with Son’s child, as the court ruled her testimony inconsistent. Son moved to Los Angeles in August after a record MLS transfer reportedly worth 26 million dollars.
