The Nigeria Customs Service has intercepted 12,500 litres of petrol valued at over ₦25 million, allegedly destined for criminal groups operating near the Babanna border in Niger State.
The operation was carried out under the banner of ‘Operation Whirlwind’, which is headed by Assistant Comptroller General Hussein Ejibunu, who also serves as the initiative’s national coordinator. He credited the success of the seizure to cooperation between local communities and other security agencies.

Speaking in Minna, Mr Ejibunu drew attention to the growing threat posed by the Lakurawa terrorist group, which operates along the fringes of Kebbi State.
He revealed that the group had recently carried out deadly attacks in the region, including one in Bashaga village where three security officers lost their lives.
Authorities say the seizure is part of ongoing efforts to disrupt the supply chains that enable armed groups to sustain their operations across Nigeria’s northern borders.
