The Nigeria Customs Service says its revenue collection for 2025 stood at ₦7.28 trillion, exceeding the projected target of ₦6.5 trillion for the year. The Comptroller General of the Service, Adewale Adeniyi, disclosed this while presenting the agency’s scorecard at an event marking the 2026 World Customs Day.
Adeniyi said the revenue figure represented a 10 per cent increase over projections, adding that the year under review demonstrated the Service’s role in protecting society. He said Customs officers uncovered 16 containers of prohibited goods worth more than ₦10 billion at Apapa Port, including narcotics, expired pharmaceuticals and concealed firearms, while officers at airports intercepted over 1,600 exotic birds trafficked without required permits.
According to the Customs boss, the Service recorded more than 2,500 seizures nationwide with a combined value exceeding ₦59 billion. He said the seizures covered narcotics, counterfeit medicines, wildlife products, arms and ammunition, petroleum products, vehicles and substandard consumer goods, noting that such operations helped prevent crimes and other social harms.

Adeniyi also highlighted reforms aimed at improving trade facilitation, including the launch of a Time Release Study at Tincan Island Port. He said the study provided detailed data on cargo clearance timelines, identifying delays linked to manual documentation and poor coordination, and would guide evidence-based reforms to make Nigeria’s trade gateways more efficient and competitive.
