The Nigeria Customs Service has intercepted 76 consignments of contraband worth ₦3.1bn and arrested 13 suspects in a three-week operation across the South-West.
Controller Muhammad Shau’aib of the Federal Operations Unit Zone A told journalists in Lagos that seizures were made in Ogun, Ondo, Ekiti, Oyo, and Lagos, targeting smuggling hotspots.

Recovered goods include over 4,000 bags of foreign rice, 22 used vehicles, 12,125 litres of petrol, 120 bales of clothing, 57 parcels of cannabis, poultry products, and vegetable oil. Eight containers with under-declared goods were also detained.
Shau’aib said the Service also recovered ₦47.8m in duties. Seized cannabis will be handed to security agencies, while suspects face further investigation. He stressed the Service’s commitment to dismantling smuggling networks undermining government fiscal policy.
