Dangote Refinery Cites Crude Oil Costs for Petrol Price Hike

The Dangote Petrochemical Refinery has attributed the recent rise in petrol prices to escalating global crude oil costs. The ex-depot price for Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, has increased from ₦899 to ₦955 per litre, reflecting a 5% adjustment.

In a statement issued on Sunday, 19 January 2025, via its official X handle, Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Mr Anthony Chiejina, explained that global crude oil prices had climbed by 15%, from $70 to $82 per barrel. He added that the premium on Nigerian crude, currently at $3 per barrel, has further impacted pricing.

As a result of absorbing logistics costs, the refinery’s partners, including Ardova, Heyden, and MRS Holdings, will retail petrol nationwide at ₦970 per litre, ensuring uniform pricing across the country, including the Federal Capital Territory.
