Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, says plans are under way to build what he describes as the biggest and deepest seaport in Nigeria. The proposed Atlantic port will be located in Olokola, Ogun State, and is expected to ease exports, including liquefied natural gas, and support his expanding industrial operations.

In an interview with Bloomberg, Dangote said approval documents were submitted last month to begin the project. The move signals his return to the Olokola site where an earlier refinery plan was shelved following disagreements with local authorities. He credited his renewed interest in the area to support from Governor Dapo Abiodun.

Dangote Group’s Vice President, Devakumar Edwin, also revealed plans to export LNG from Lagos, with new pipelines to be constructed from the Niger Delta. Edwin said the goal is to exceed current output levels from Nigeria LNG.
