The Dangote Group has begun an ambitious expansion of its refinery complex, targeting a rise in crude processing capacity from 650,000 to 1.4 million barrels per day within three years. When completed, it will become the world’s largest single-site refinery, overtaking India’s Jamnagar facility.
Announcing the project, Group President Aliko Dangote said the expansion reflects faith in Nigeria’s economic outlook and Africa’s industrial potential. He noted that the development aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s vision of making Nigeria a key exporter of refined petroleum products.

Mr. Dangote explained that the new phase would progress faster, as existing infrastructure—including the port and pipelines—is already in place. While investment details were not disclosed, the original refinery reportedly cost about $20 billion to build.
