A severe measles outbreak is overwhelming health facilities in Sudan’s Darfur region, medical charity Médecins Sans Frontières has warned, highlighting the impact of ongoing violence on public health.
Hospitals in parts of Central, South, and West Darfur are treating a sharp rise in cases, with immunisation programmes disrupted by conflict and logistical barriers.

The surge in measles infections is compounded by malnutrition and the collapse of routine health services, according to aid workers. MSF and United Nations officials have called on authorities to remove barriers to vaccine delivery and urgently expand immunisation coverage to protect vulnerable children from the disease.
